Do You Have SOUL?
Soul is Pixar’s latest animated film and boy, did it have me in the feels. It premiered on Disney+ on Christmas Day. It may have seemed like a movie meant for kids, but it tackled some of life’s biggest questions. What were we put on this earth for? The movie centers around Joe Gardner who is a part-time music teacher who’s biggest dream is to be a famous musician. One of his former students lands him a jazz audition with a well-known sax player Dorothea Williams. In the spirit of not spoiling the movie, I’ll say that he goes on a quest where he must realize what he is meant to do. I’ve noticed some people have questioned whether this was an appropriate movie for kids, but in my opinion this movie is a gateway that can lead to important discussions with your children. Everybody questions what their spark is everyday. On many occasions I’ve questioned myself on what I’m meant to do. I would consider writing to be my spark. It’s not only what I’m good at, but it also helps others. I love being able to relate to people through my writing. Writing is one of the most powerful things in my life, and I sincerely think that it’s my spark in this life. Soul also highlights not taking life for granted, even the small, mundane things that seem so ordinary. We’re also taught that when we’re given a second chance in life we should make the most of it. Soul was full of deep, philosophical lessons and definitely worth a watch.
